Recite has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page explains what leaves your phone, where it goes, why, and what your rights are.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Akshit, publisher of Recite. For any question or to exercise your rights: support@recitecitizen.com.
2. What stays on your phone
Your application type, exam date, French level, answers, progress and settings are stored only on your phone. We don't have a copy. If your phone backs up apps to iCloud or your Google account, that backup can include this data, under Apple's or Google's terms.
3. Your voice
When you answer out loud, your phone's speech recognition turns your voice into text. When your phone supports it, this happens on the phone; otherwise Apple or Google processes the audio under their own privacy policies. Recite does not record or keep audio.
The questions are read aloud from recordings downloaded from recitecitizen.com, hosted by Cloudflare. As with any download, the host can see your IP address; nothing else is sent.
4. Checking spoken answers
To check an interview answer, the text of what you said is sent with the question to our grading service, which uses an AI model from Anthropic. It is used only to grade that answer. We don't keep it; Anthropic acts as our processor, doesn't use it to train its models and keeps it only for the limited period set in its terms.
Each request also carries the app's random ID (see Purchases) and, like any internet connection, your IP address. We use them only to limit how many answers can be checked per phone and per connection. These counts are deleted after 2 days, except the number of free mock interviews used, which is kept so the free allowance can't be reset. Cloudflare, which hosts the grading service, keeps technical request logs (time, IP address and the app's random ID, never your answers) for up to 7 days.
This automatic check has no legal effect: only the administration decides on your application.
5. Purchases
Payments go through Apple or Google. The app creates a random ID on your phone, not linked to your name or email. RevenueCat uses it to confirm Premium, and our grading service uses it for the limits above.
6. Error reports
When the app crashes or something goes wrong, for example saved data that can't be read or a store error, it sends a short report to Expo, the company whose tools we use to build the app. A report says what kind of error happened and where in the app, with the app and system version, the phone model, how long the app took to start, and a random ID created by Expo's tools. It never includes your answers, your name, anything you typed or the app's random ID from Purchases. Expo acts as our processor and keeps reports for 90 days; we use them only to find and fix bugs.
7. Our website
recitecitizen.com counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites.
On the website's mock interview page, speech recognition is provided by your browser. Depending on the browser, the audio may be sent to its provider, for example Google or Apple, to be transcribed under its own rules. Recite does not receive or keep this audio or the transcribed text.
If you ask to hear about a launch, we keep your email address, your language and the page where you signed up for that purpose only and delete them once that email has been sent.
To stop automated sign-ups, Cloudflare Turnstile checks your browser when a sign-up form is shown on the page to confirm you're a person, and we count sign-ups per IP address. Those counts are kept for about a minute.
8. Legal bases
We process this data to provide the service you use (GDPR article 6(1)(b)); to limit how many answers can be checked and prevent abuse, to measure website traffic without cookies, and to find and fix bugs from error reports, under our legitimate interest (article 6(1)(f)); and, for email lists, on the basis of your consent (article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
9. How long we keep data
App data stays on your phone until you erase it or delete the app.
Our grading service doesn't keep the text of your answers. Usage counts are deleted after 2 days. The number of free mock interviews used is kept for as long as the service runs, because that's the only way to stop the free allowance being reset; it is linked only to the random ID. Cloudflare's technical logs are deleted after 7 days at most. Expo deletes error reports after 90 days.
An email address left to hear about a launch is deleted once that email has been sent.
10. Service providers and transfers
Our providers are Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Anthropic, Expo and Cloudflare. Some are based in the United States: these transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
11. What we never do
We don't sell or share your data, show ads, or use analytics that track you. We never pass information about you to the French Ministry of the Interior or any other authority.
12. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to and port your data. Because the app's data is on your phone, you can erase it at any time from Me > Delete my data. The random ID stays in the phone's secure storage so that Premium keeps working; on iPhone it can remain after you delete the app. Because that ID isn't linked to your name or email, we can't find the data linked to it from your request alone (GDPR article 11). To have your purchase erased at RevenueCat, write to support@recitecitizen.com with the order number from Apple's or Google's receipt. For any other request, write to the same address.
If you think your rights have not been respected, you can complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).
13. Age
The app is meant for adults preparing an application. It is not intended for anyone under 15.
