Questions and accepted answers from the USCIS 2025 civics test.
How the civics test works at your interview
It’s spoken, not written
During your interview, the USCIS officer asks the civics questions out loud and you answer out loud, in English. On the 2025 test the officer asks up to 20 questions from the list of 128, and you need 12 correct answers.
Many questions accept more than one answer, and some ask you to name two or three things. The USCIS list shows every accepted answer.
Why practicing out loud helps
Recognizing an answer when you read it is not the same as saying it when someone asks. Practicing out loud gets you used to hearing the question and answering in your own voice, the way you will in the room.
About this practice
This page asks 3 random questions from the 128 on the 2025 list and checks your answer against every answer USCIS accepts. Speaking works in Chrome, Edge and Safari; in other browsers you can type your answer instead.
