How the naturalization interview ends

Everyone leaves with Form N-652

At the end of your interview, the officer gives you Form N-652, Naturalization Interview Results. The checked boxes show how you did on the English and civics tests and where your application stands.

If you didn’t pass a test

You get two chances to pass each part. If you fail English or civics at your interview, USCIS tests you again on only that part, 60 to 90 days later. If you fail it again, USCIS denies the application.

When there’s no decision yet

USCIS should decide within 120 days of your interview. If it doesn’t, the law lets you ask a federal district court to decide your case or send it back to USCIS with instructions.

If your application is denied

You can ask for a hearing with a different USCIS officer by filing Form N-336 within 30 days of the decision, or 33 days if it came by mail. You can also file a new N-400 instead.
